Bert Rechichar, former defensive back with the Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Colts, Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Titans died on July 19, at the age of 89:

Before Tom Dempsey's 63-yard kick in 1970, Rechichar held the record for longest FG at 56 yards.

Bert Rechichar was also on the Cleveland Browns roster in 1952. The Browns got him just before the last Pre-season game in a trade with the Lions. The Lions got Jim Martin in return. He was active for 12 games and wore #15

Some interesting facts about Rechichar:

He was part of the huge 15-player deal between the Browns and Colts that had the Browns acquiring Mike McCormick and sending away some guy named Shula. Interestingly, the Colts also got the rights to quarterback Harry Agganis, who had signed to play for the Boston Red Sox. He shockingly died two years later.

Rechichar got quietly married sometime after Tennessee's 1951 football season, the reason being that he was still on scholarship and Bob Neyland (the Vols' AD) had a rule that no married players could be on scholarship.

He played minor league baseball in 1952-53 in the Cleveland Indians farm system:

Tom Bass, Chargers' DC under Don Coryell, passed away on July 27th at the age of 83.
