McFarland has his manuscript.
I am glad for this, at least he was able to finish something he had worked years on.

Rupert was a "top 10" performer in the PFRA in quantity and quality of work. I appreciate having shared this space with him. Condolences to his family and to all here who knew him.

I'm hoping all PFRA members will see fit to add Rupert's book to their libraries as both a tribute to the man and a show of support for each other.

I had the pleasure of meeting Rupert at the 2018 Buffalo convention and sat across from him when a bunch of us went out to Cole's for wings on Saturday night. We talked a bit about his research on kickers and kicking accuracy. He emailed me a few sample chapters of his book a few weeks after that. Also his work on collecting and "repairing" game books was nothing short of amazing. Not to detract from the discussion and remembrances in this thread, did he share with others in the PFRA (or do we have access to) all the pdf files he was collecting and piecing together for the game books? It would be a shame to have all that hard work stuck on his hard drive and lost to us.
I have just seen this today, very very sad news.

I'm a fairly new member on here and when I contacted him about Game books, he messaged and emailed me straight away, he seemed like a very friendly guy. We had a number of email exchanges, he even asked me to help with some work on quality checking the Houston Oilers game books he had, I sent him an email on Saturday to say I had finished them.

Hopefully a number of us can pull together to finish off his work of putting together all Game books for all teams, which I think was a big passion of his.

I'd found a fellow Game book geek, Rupert I only knew you for a short while but you will be sadly missed.

Terribly saddened to hear this. Rupert was one of the best. I greatly enjoyed debating the relative merits of QBs across eras with him in the short time we were both on the forum together, and I was highly looking forward to the publication of his book on the subject. We will all miss him dearly. I'm happy he at least saw his beloved era-adjustment darling Steve Young make the all-time team. He got to see that what he did mattered, and we will all carry on Rupert's vision and work in his honor.

Admittedly, I didn't know Rupert well, but he seemed like a good guy, and always contributed a ton to these forums. Regards to his family. May he rest in peace.

I am very sad to hear of his passing. I did not know Rupert personally but have enjoyed reading his insights and opinions on football since 2006. He was one of the sharpest people on the forum (one of many). Condolences to Rupert's family and friends. He will be missed.

Wow!...

As many Greats (esteemed Educators) who are on this site, despite it being just a month, his absence is TRULY already felt!!

One TRULY misses his responses!
