Not to be argumentative but you would rather have Randy Moss on your team than Jerry Rice?
That's an... interesting perspective.

I believe as a group we decided the "Mount Rushmore" of receivers was Rice, Hutson, Alworth and Berry (with which I would concur). After that top tier there are numerous opinions on who might be next up.

I wouldn't argue with any of the nominations made here (Taylor, Warfield, Moss, Fitzgerald, Largent) though I might view Fitz and Largent more as "compilers." And I love Rupert's inclusion of Lenny Moore (best receiver ever from the RB position?).

The name I might add is "Crazylegs" Hirsch, whose accomplishments seem to have fallen by the wayside as time marches on.
And maybe Bobby Mitchell...

So, given all that, I guess my list would be...
Rice, Hutson, Alworth, Berry and any of... Moore/Hirsch/Moss/Taylor/Mitchell/Warfield.
As Lenny Moore is the guy I would most want on my team I'd list him as #5.

Interesting that no one has mentioned Owens yet....
But I'm not going to be the first to do so....

You are certainly entitled to your well-informed (and respected) opinion!
That one was just so far out there (to me) that it seemed remarkable (so I remarked on it).

If one is discussing greatest presidents no one is going to say anything if you nominate Washington, Jefferson or Lincoln.
But if you were to say Warren G. Harding was the best then someone might raise an eyebrow....

It’s tough to choose only 5:

Hutson
Alworth
Warfield
Rice

I think the 3rd spot is the 'swing spot', as #1 & #2 are (almost) unquestionably Jerry Rice and Don Hutson. My list would be:

1) Rice
2) Hutson
3) Alworth

I remember a recent survey where the general public was asked "Which President should be added to Mt. Rushmore?", and 16% of the respondents said "Teddy Roosevelt". Good stuff.

Raymond Berry...nice guy, nice story, nice WR, but there is no way he is the consensus #4 WR of all-time. Randy Moss was in a different stratosphere. The year he had Tom Brady throwing to him, he scored 23 TDs. Berry had a year with Unitas where he caught 75 passes for 0 TDs.

If I were building a franchise, I'd pick Rice. If I have one game to win, I'll take Moss.
