Re: Ed Meadows

Thanks for the follow-up. I recently found out he had made a brief comeback attempt with the Montreal Alouettes in 1961 that only lasted three games, which is what prompted my question. The suicide and estrangement from his family show all the signs of CTE and/or other mental health issues that are ...

Ed Meadows

Ed Meadows is probably best known for his controversial hit that knocked Bobby Layne out of the 1956 Western Conference playoff game, but I recently found out he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, but there's not much else I can find out about what led up to it. I'd be interested to hear if t...

Re: Andy Livingston Bears/Saints (1964-1970)

Here's what they wrote about him in Pro Football 1970 by Jack Zanger: "A powerful 6-1, 230-pound runner who spent five seasons with the Chicago Bears before falling into disfavor with George Halas, Andy Livingston came to the Saints just before the start of the 1969 season. He subsequently prov...

Conference Title Game Rematches

The Washington Post ran an interesting story today about Sunday's AFC conference title rematch between the Chiefs and Bengals, and interestingly pointed out how relatively rare such games have been since the merger. Here's an excerpt from the article along with a rundown of the scores. "For the...

Re: Super Bowl 10

One explanation for why Stram wasn't critical of the decision might be that he was still hoping to get another coaching job in the league and didn't want to upset the coaching fraternity. I can think of other former coach commentators who made me wonder the same thing about them.

Jim Thorpe Book Signing

Tonight the National Archives is hosting a program featuring David Maraniss making a presentation and book signing about his Path Lit by Lightning: The Life of Jim Thorpe. His granddaughter Anita Thorpe will also be there. I live in Washington so I'm going in person, but they're also offering opport...

Re: 1972 Dolphins

Interesting no one has mentioned any teams from the 50s as candidates for the greatest list even though there were three back-to-backs (1952-53 Lions, 1954-55 Browns, 1958-59 Colts).

Re: 1972 Dolphins

Just wanted to say I've enjoyed this discussion, and it's just what I had hoped for when I posted the original question. I see the 1985 Bears have not been mentioned, and I agree with that omission even though they are often brought up in this discussion. The 1972 Dolphins, 1962 Packers, 1978 Steele...

Re: Double Bill in Detroit

Also interesting to note Ralph Wilson was from Detroit and the Bills wore uniforms similar to the Lions in their first couple of seasons.

Re: 1972 Dolphins

I agree that the 1962 Packers, 1978 Steelers and 1984 49ers should be in the discussion.
