Re: 2022 Obituaries

Browns deemed him expendable just a few weeks after they traded for Frank Ryan in 1962. Worked out well for both.

Re: Bo Jackson being drafted by Raiders

After Jackson signed with the Raiders, Kirk Gibson indicated that Davis (or the Raiders) had inquired about his possible interest in playing football. He'd been drafted by the Cardinals (also in a later round) back in 79 and had first-round potential. ESPN has gushed about Jackson for decades, but t...

Re: (Stupid) Question I Have as a Younger Fan

The hashmarks were moved in before the 1972 season, with the end result being a surge in 1,000-yard rushers--including the 2,003 gained by Orenthal James the following year.

Re: The best ever pair of Thanksgiving Day games?

A bit off topic but I loved the early games of 1968-1969. The '68 game was played in a rainstorm and the '69 game in the snow. Those were the good old days. That 68 game was the Eagles' first win of the season after an 0-11 start. They then beat the Saints and ended up losing out in the OJ Sweepsta...

Re: So, what's the purpose of this new USFL?

I've yet to see any games that were played before anything even remotely resembling a big crowd. As previously noted, this is just an excuse to have TV programming. The NFL gets monster ratings, so Fox and NBC are glad to skim even a portion of that audience for time periods that are just dumping gr...

Re: The best ever pair of Thanksgiving Day games?

Oddities from 1964 and 1965

In 64, the Bears beat the Lion 27-24 and the Bills beat the Chargers ... 27-24.

In 65, both games ended in ties: Colts and Lions (24-24) and Bills-Chargers (20-20)/

From 1967-69, it was a true football feast with FOUR games on.

Montana and Elway in SB 34--even if Elway's team did nothing during the entire game.

Re: Notable 4-0 starts

What about the 1966 Green Bay Packers? The 1967 Packers were undefeated after four games--at 3-0-1--when they lost at home to the Vikings, 10-7. Similarly, both the Browns and Cardinals started the 1964 season with 3-0-1 record--that tie was a 33-33 classic between the two teams in Week 2. The Card...

Re: 2022 Obituaries

Former Chiefs LB Frank Manumaleuga (1979-81) died on Wednesday at the age of 66. He also played with Oakland and Portland in the USFL from 1983-85. Haven't found any official obituary, but this was on Twitter on Thursday: https://twitter.com/RonMFlores/status/1532486386997030912 https://www.pro-foot...
