Disagreeable once-in-a-while but never a poor excuse.

Re: Memorable dropped passes/interceptions

The thread does not specify "professional" so the following memorable dropped pass qualifies. Irving Fryar - 1984 Orange Bowl: Miami 31-30 W vs Nebraska. It would have been even more memorable had the 'Huskers not scored to cut the lead to the final score. Osborne went for the W with a 2-p...

Re: Top 10 Defensive Players of All Time

Any "top 10" Defense without "The Lion" is a joke. Leo Nomellini 10× Pro Bowl selection (1950, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961) 9× All-Pro (1951, 1952, 1953, 1954, 1957, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962) NFL 1950s All-Decade Team NFL 50th Anniversary All-Time Team Pro ...

Re: Joe Namath and the AFL's Spalding Ball

There was a magazine pictorial essay back in 1999 or 2000 which was really just a series of various quarterback's grips. I recall it covered several current (at that time) quarterbacks and I thought even players from the past, but have never located it since. I always thought it was the old "S...

Re: HOFers who held for kicks

I'm pretty sure Sammy Baugh was a holder for much of his career. In broader terms, I believe most holders used to be quarterbacks, as late as the 1970s or '80s, so it might be a good bet that most of the Hall of Fame quarterbacks from that time were also holders -- guys like Van Brocklin, Graham, T...

Re: HOFers who held for kicks

Only one was a hofer but, in 1958, New York Giants Pat Summerall had four holders during the season.
His Giants career was only four years, but he had six previous years with the Cardinals and Lions.

Re: Warrick Dunn: One of the Good Guys

We read so much about the dirt-bags that grab the NFL headlines. It's nice to read about some of the good guys. “The evil that men do lives after them; The good is oft interred with their bones.” ~ William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar : Act 3, Scene 2 Willie can be wrong once in a while. Warrick Dunn...

Re: Bo Jackson. How much has been hype built up over the yea

It is unlikely he "chose" to be a flash-in-the-pan in either sport. It is more likely he chose the exceptionally difficult task of competing at the highest level in two sports. {Edited by moderator} The over-lapping seasons caused Jackson so enter the more physically demanding sport probab...

Re: Julius Adams #85

Interestingly, in Pro Football Reference it is written that he wore #69 when he came back from retirement in 1987. I'm 100% certain that he continued to wear #85, although he may have started with #69. So much conjecture by people who know so little... Teo, you are on the mark. Nick Buoniconti wore...
