Re: Finalists for Hall of Fame's centennial class revealed

Re the OTs on the 80s all-decade team, one wonders why Jackie Slater and Mike Kenn didn’t get selected.

Re: Class of 2020 Centennial Hall of Fame Finalists

Boknows34, I’d also consider adding Jim Ray Smith, Duane Putnam, Dick Barwegen, Jimmy Patton, Dave Grayson, Bill Forester, Gene Brito, Mike Stratton, Ken Gray, Gale Gillingham, Abe Woodson, Art Powell, Riley Matheson, Tommy Davis, Billy Wilson, Tom Sestak, Earl Faison, George Kunz, Mark Gastineau, M...

Hmmm, good question. Maybe Chuck Howley, Billy Howton, Maxie Baughan, Del Shofner, and Jim Tyrer.

Re: Class of 2020 Centennial Hall of Fame Finalists

Gotta say, this is pretty good news. All of Dilweg, Lewellen, Slater, Emerson, Wistert, and Speedie got through, which is the best possible outcome one could expect. Isbell and Sprinkle are pretty marginal and I wouldn't enshrine either, but it does suggest a really strong emphasis on getting in som...

Re: Fullbacks, Halfbacks, Running Backs?

I’m not sure there was a hard and fast rule at the time regarding which type of back carried the ball more. It was often a fullback, but there are exceptions. For example, in the NFL in 1961, the leading rushers for San Francisco (J.D. Smith), Chicago (Willie Galimore), Dallas (Don Perkins), St Loui...

Re: Rookie RBs w/1300 rushing yards; only 1000 yard season

Robert Edwards gained 1115 rushing yards in his rookie year (1998) with the Patriots, then blew out his knee in a Pro Bowl NFL flag football game at the end of the year. He only played one more season in the NFL four years later, gaining 107 yards. He also played three years in the CFL (2005-2007) b...

Re: Troy Polamalu VS Ed Reed

FWIW, Ed Reed (7/9/00s) also has better honors than Troy Polamalu (5/8/00s).

Low and slow. Works for BBQ, not for punters. :)

Re: odd careers in the 21st century

Terrelle Pryor has sure played for a lot of teams (5 and on rosters for 3 others). Appears that’s not the record, though. A quick Google search suggests that honor belongs to QB J.T. O’Sullivan — between 2002 and 2012, he was on 11 NFL team rosters as well one each in NFL Europe and the CFL. He was ...
