Re: More "changing the game"

More athletic than Dowler? I doubt it. Dowler was a college QB who also played defense and intercepted 5 passes as a senior. He also ran the 120-yard high hurdles. Maybe I am nit-picking better athlete. I am only looking at it from NFL lens. Taylor made some great plays that I don't think Dowler co...

Re: Bud Grant-making a not-so-funny-joke

You don’t know Bud Grant if you think he was having yard sales to line his own 90+ year old pockets. He was getting rid of stuff so his family wouldn’t have to deal with it after he’s gone. Well, Bud’s gone now, the stuff he sold is out of the way, and the family doesn’t have to deal with it. Callin...

Re: Bud Grant-making a not-so-funny-joke

I have little doubt he was being serious. Grant loved his $$$, and made no qualms about coaching being a job first and a passion second. He would bring home leftovers from team breakfasts. Later in life he would unload memorabilia via garage sales, even though he had more money than Croesus. You wa...

Re: Vince Lombardi Coincidence

And how do we know that he stepped aside in GB because “he had gotten the most out of his package”? The 1967 team is underrated by many because of their seemingly “mediocre” 9-4-1 record. They were 9-2-1 before the last second loss to the Rams and a meaningless loss to Pittsburgh in the season final...

Re: Don Meredith

Here’s a quirky Meredith statistic that I read in my 1968 NFL Autograph Yearbook magazine. Going into the 1968 season Dandy Don had completed 999 passes out of 1,999 career attempts. Those numbers caught my then nine year old eyes and have stuck ever since.

Re: 1961 Seeking 2ndNFL Title-Pitt did not help the Eagles

It’s highly unlikely that the rest of the season would have played out the same if Pittsburgh would have won that early season game. It’s called the Butterfly Effect.

NVB wouldn’t have been any more effective in Philly than he was in Minnesota and Atlanta. He was not cut out to be a head coach.

Re: Cardinals in Super Bowl 2008 9-7 season

There is no doubt the 1979 Rams were a talented team that got hot at the right time but they were lucky also ... *Atlanta and NO should have challenged them better for the divisional title but their defenses collapsed that season. Both teams had good offenses. *Ferragamo was still young and unknown...

Re: 1980 Oilers with Pastorini

I’m surprised that I didn’t post in this thread back in 2016. Dante looked like a prototypical textbook QB of the 70’s but, as it turned out, he was eminently mediocre. Stabler, despite his 28 interceptions, was an improvement in 1980.

Re: George Allen's Legacy as Redskin HC

Many people feel Theismann developed into a HOVG caliber QB under Gibbs. Had Allen moved on from Kilmer-Jurgensen after their 74' playoff loss and handed the keys to Injun Joe, could he have developed quicker and been better by the time Allen left? Injun Joe was Joe Kapp’s nickname. Theismann could...
