Re: Bud Grant-making a not-so-funny-joke

at 30:00 seconds says he "got paid" and then told lasy she bet the wrong way Bud, come on. Found this looking for stuff with the bad news today. Yikes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyB9IGWIlw4 I watched this video, and the lady says she doesn’t think she’ll ever see the Vikings win a S...

Re: Reuben Ursella - HOVG

How do you rank Ursella v. Bobby Marshall? Both HOVG? If so, which one would you put in first? That's a tough one. (I always find it difficult to compare players at different positions.) I have a high regard for Bobby Marshall. He was a tremendous all-around athlete, but as you say, we can only jud...

Re: Reuben Ursella - HOVG

I'd like to see more evidence that there was contemporary opinion that ranked him among the best - all pro teams etc. Remember, the height of the Minneapolis Marines was around 1916, and their reputation as a pre-war powerhouse under Ursella's leadership carried them into the NFL, where they did no...

Re: Reuben Ursella - HOVG

A bit about Ursella as a tactician: When Reuben Ursella took over as coach and quarterback of the Rock Island Independents in 1919, five hundred fans showed up at Douglas Park in Rock Island to watch him lead the Independents in their first workout, which included learning the fundamentals of the Mi...

Reuben Ursella - HOVG

About Reuben Ursella, and why I believe he belongs in the Professional Football Researchers Association Hall of Very Good: Reuben John “Rube” Ursella, a black-haired, brown-eyed first-generation American of Italian heritage attended two years of high school at Minneapolis South but never played foot...

Re: 1895 Shepardsville, MI Football Club

I think when we take a step back and look at everything at once, it's pretty clear that the Ohio River Basin is the birthplace (maybe "cradle" is a better term) of professional football. Most of early pro football of any significance was played on the north side of the river within that ba...

Re: 1895 Shepardsville, MI Football Club

I reached out to Alan March who is the great-grandson of Dr. Harry A March, author of the very first pro football history - Pro football, its "Ups" and "Downs": A light-hearted history of the post graduate game . He had this to say: In the context of the pre-NFL era, it seems th...

Re: Pro Bowl Games: I lasted less than a minute

As I type this, they are doing a water balloon toss.

Why can't they at least have athletic competitions like they did on the Superstars series?

It's not about the fans anymore. Or at least not old fans like me.

Re: False starts

Have you guys noticed that the officials never measure for close first downs? The coaches never demand a measurement and the officials seem to follow the tv lines--which are supposed to be unofficial-- as if they are law ? ... I blame the coaches for not demanding measurements ... They have had RFI...
