Re: 2023 Conference Championship Games

From the perspective of this dinosaur, analytics is usurping common sense in sports. That's why Campbell went for it on those two 4th downs instead of attempting the FG. Among other things analytics has given us are entire lineups filled with guys hitting 18 home runs with 156 K. I gave up on baseb...

Re: 2023 Conference Championship Games

I was not a fan of Campbell's 4th down decisions there nor the "well that's how he's done it all year" rationale. It's about playing smart, sound, situational football. In that spot I am trying both field goals. If he makes that first one and that game goes back to being a 3 score affair.....

Re: Divisional Playoff Weekend

The Chiefs are finally beginning to get Patriotized by other NFL fans in that there is now a general feeling that they've had enough prosperity, good fortune, and need to get knocked down a peg. Taylor Swift has at least something to do with it as the conspiracy theories start to spread that the NFL...

Re: Kirk Cousins (R.I.P. Vikings career?) - How did he do?

Yikes. For a second I thought he had passed away :o Cousins did exactly how I thought he would in Minnesota. A good to sometimes very good QB who will have great games here and there. Over the course of a season he will a player who makes the team better, win more games than he loses (50-37-1) and h...

Re: random Overtime/Kicker question

The other candidate for worst MNF game at that point would have been 1975 Jets at Chargers. Namath is benched for JJ Jones for partying too much and the 1-11 Chargers beat the 3-9 Jets 24-16. I humbly submit last night's Bears-Vikings game for consideration as worst MNF game ever. https://www.pro-f...

Re: John Madden

To me NBC will always be the AFC channel and CBS the NFC channel. You knew FOX was gonna cartoon things up when they got the NFC package and go overboard with the graphics, forced comedic skits, over the top personalities and Hollywood nonsense. Even without Madden I can't see FOX not succeeding. Th...

Re: The Stupidity Of Thursday Night Football

The end goal, probably, is an 18-game schedule with two bye weeks and a game on every night of the week. I'm sure a scheduling wizard could see to it that no team has fewer than six days' rest between games. It would destroy the rhythm of a football season that we've known for a century, but big de...

Re: John Madden

He was this big burly guy who came across as goofy and harmless...a bit of an oddball but in an endearing way. He did go over the top and play up that Madden cartoon character personality much like Terry Bradshaw did when going from CBS to FOX. He always seemed to have funny and sometimes bizarre ra...

Re: random Overtime/Kicker question

Neil O'Donoghue did it in that very year, 1983, in a Monday Night Football game, Cardinals vs. Giants. Thanks. That's pretty incredible, although not surprising that O'Donoghue is the guy who 'achieved' it. I think if someone is keeping track of most game-winning FGs, missed, career.....then O'Dono...
