Re: random Overtime/Kicker question

Neil O'Donoghue did it in that very year, 1983, in a Monday Night Football game, Cardinals vs. Giants. I believe that O'Donoghue missed the shortest FG possible, as the ball was placed at the Giants 1-yard line. That 20-20 tie was considered for many years as the worst FG MNF game ever. The other c...

Re: Willie Galimore

He was explosive but not very durable. Not a consistent receiving threat. Don't really see enough to separate at all from players like Jon Arnett and Tom Tracy. Just good.

Re: random Overtime/Kicker question

Neil O'Donoghue did it in that very year, 1983, in a Monday Night Football game, Cardinals vs. Giants. Thanks. That's pretty incredible, although not surprising that O'Donoghue is the guy who 'achieved' it. I think if someone is keeping track of most game-winning FGs, missed, career.....then O'Dono...

Re: Rules question from Sunday

And it isn't just in football, either. The changes in baseball... yikes. Purists and old timers are spinning in their graves and Charlie Finley is laughing in his. As with virtually everything else in this world not only are sports changing rapidly but the rate of change is accelerating. Baseball c...

Re: Rules question from Sunday

With the kickoffs it seems to be one part of the game that is very informal. Catching the ball and then just flipping it to the offical seems to signal "no attempt to return" then the ball goes to the 25. It's handled as it would be in the end zone. Players don't need to formally down the ...

Re: Dick Gordon, 1970 Bears season

Rams wanted to pass but Gabriel has a sore arm all year. Prothro was a supposed offensive mind and actually ran some three-receiver sets but their third receivers were lacking in 1971 and 1972 Maslowski, then Love and Sweet. Gordon was supposed to be an upgrade but he got hurt with a couple of thin...

Re: Dick Gordon, 1970 Bears season

The Rams were not a throwing team anyway and had established receivers with Snow and Rentzel. Rentzel would get suspended in 1973 but Harold Jackson came in the Gabriel trade. Gordon wound up on the Packers in late 1973 Rams wanted to pass but Gabriel has a sore arm all year. Prothro was a supposed...

Re: Dick Gordon, 1970 Bears season

I tried to find an interview with Dick Gordon, wasn't successful. Doesn't help that there are a couple of other Dick Gordons with noteriety, including an astronaut. You have to consider the times, the early 1970s, the number of players who were balking at the NFL system for one reason or another. Jo...

Re: Chicago Bears Quarterbacks

I read a crazy stat in today's Chicago Sun-Times and was reminded of this thread. C.J. Stroud has passed for 2,626 yards this season, with 15 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. This is more passing yards than any Bears quarterback has ever thrown in any nine-game stretch. Crazy Some context: Stroud do...
