Re: Top 10 NFL Books

I don't doubt the series died due to poor sales. In retrospect doing that series in the mid 1970's in of itself was a limiting factor. About a quarter of the NFL teams at that point really didn't have an extensive amount of great runs to have a book done about them.

Collison of Wills by Jack Gilden

I had just one problem with the book. The stated subject of the book is hardly if ever looked into. It is a good overview of the Colts during the Shula era but the title is misleading. All you really find out is Unitas didn't like Shula but your never sure why and little evidence is presented to exp...

Re: Archie Manning's Saints

Not saying this is the main reason for Archie Manning's failures in the 1970's but prior to his arrival the Saints made a couple of trades that didn't help. 1-28-69 They traded John Gilliam to the Cardinals for Dave Long, Dick Kasperak, Brady Keys and a second round dr ch 1969 which turned out to be...

Re: LUCKIEST single-season teams?

Based on various reasons that others have used for whichever team and year they picked, I'll say it..... the 1972 Dolphins. 1.) Schedule had only one team with a winning record the declining 8-6 Chiefs. 2.) They caught the Vikings 7-7 early in the schedule so it was still warm in Minnesota. 3.) The ...

Re: Barry Switzer

Here is the deal Barry Switzer was not the fool he is made out to be. Was he a great NFL coach? - No, Should he be considered a bad NFL coach? - Far from it. See Bill Peterson, Rich Kotite and Adam Gase for that. Switzer was given a chance to coach an already great team, earn some serious money, mak...

Re: What will the Redskins new name be?

Washington Snyders owners face on helmet or a horses ass. Washington Monuments NFLs first phallic symbol on a helmet. Washington Pentagons have all the branches of the military on the helmet. ( Actually kinda like this one) Washington Presidents each season have a different one on the helmet. Of cou...

Re: Now Isaac Curtis "Changed football" and I missed it some

Just a general observation. Looking at his numbers his best seasons were when he has Joiner and Trumpy on the team. Mid career decline due to injury and teams general decline. As stated earlier his numbers rebounded to close to previous levels but the added two games per season probably had more to ...

Re: NFL "what-if" scenarios thread

What if all the players drafted by the AFL signed with NFL teams and vise versa. One interesting thing would have been both Don Meredith and Roger Staubach would have been Texans/Chiefs which means Len Dawson would have probably faded into obscurity. Stram would have had no reason to reach out to hi...

Re: "Unbalanced" Teams

1970-71 Vikings went 23-5 but had a average offense but awesome defense. Can't win playoff games with Gary Cuozzo, Bill Lee as QBs.
