Re: HoF Semifinalists announced

Ward is third/fourth in the current pecking order and it’s going to get tougher at the WR position with Calvin Johnson on the ballot next year, followed soon after by Andre Johnson and Steve Smith. True enough. My guess is that they induct the second tier guys in order of eligibility, which would b...

Re: Ron Wolf

<sighs> Yeah, agreed. Kind of like when I saw Gil Brandt’s bizarre “best ever at their position” rankings.

No question Marcus Allen was a fine player at his best and a worthy HoFer. But there are several Raiders I’d rank above him.

Re: Great, now Doug Atkins "helped revolutionize" DE spot

One of the first great defensive players? What, nobody ever played defense before? That’s more manure than a bag of fertilizer. BTW John, fine write-ups about the best DEs and where Atkins should rank over at your site: http://nflfootballjournal.blogspot.com/2019/11/atkins-surprise-on-nfl-100-team.h...

Re: 2010s All-Decade

John, good team and I agree with most of it. Thoughts: -Logan Mankins might supplant Iupati. -center is an interesting issue here. Could see Travis Frederick, Maurkice Pouncey, or even Nick Mangold (sometimes they pick players who are more “tweeners” to these) considered. -Jason Witten might have an...

Re: HoF Semifinalists announced

Robert, I would replace the six singled out with Steve Wisniewski, Henry Ellard, Sterling Sharpe, Nick Lowery, Gary Anderson, and Albert Lewis. I'm pretty sure that sharpes eligibility ran out last year My bad — you’re right. Lomas Brown, Chris Hinton, Lance Briggs, or Ben Coates maybe, though I’m ...

Re: Not that it always matters to voters

but guys like John (and Proscout) have skill and knowledge bases I lack -- and there's no reason not to think they may have better insights. Proscout . . . not me. They like complete backs and Watters had the requsite 5 "blue" seasons. Watters gets some grief for the "for who, for wh...

Re: HoF Semifinalists announced

When is the last time Alexander and Priest Holmes made semifinals? Not sure I recall ever seeing Alexander, their continued blackballing doesn't make much sense when guys like, yeah, Fred Taylor get attention. I think Taylor made the list because he is the closest eligible RB to the 12K line who is...

Re: Not that it always matters to voters

Proscout's top 5--- Watters "a must"--Seymour--Bryant Young--Matthews- Troy P Why such stark differences of opinion on Watters? Can only speak for myself -- my observations are those of an eager armchair observer who does whatever research he can manage and has no film study skills or acc...

Re: HoF Semifinalists announced

any reasons on the nonstarters bachs Taylor and Watters are no’s for me because they did not get over 12K career rushing yards. I know the latter caught a lot of passes, but I’m also lukewarm at best on Roger Craig, and I see the two as similar players, essentially second class versions of Marshall...
