Re: Andre Rison w/Colts: 85, 87, or both?
I looked through a few newspapers to get to the bottom of this and here's the chronology of Rison's jersey number that season: Andre Rison wore #1 during the 1989 preseason, while Clarence Weathers wore #87. Just before the regular season the Colts released #85 Matt Bouza. Weathers then took #85. Du...

Re: Packers in the Astrodome
The game was played in 1999. I wrote a small blog post about it a few years ago on my old site. It was certainly an interesting way to spice up a preseason game. I remember watching the game on TV and from what I can recall the field held up well and was a lush green. http://www.footballgeography.co...

Re: NFL 100th Anniversary Team possibilites
Barry Sanders should be a lock for the 100th Anniversary All-Time Team. I also think Deion Sanders, Junior Seau, and Derrick Thomas had careers worthy of the team.

The Browns, well technically the Ravens fired Bill Belichick.
The Buccaneers might have been able to sign Bo Jackson had they not sabotaged his senior year of college baseball.

Re: Did Dan Marino retire with the Lions?
So my joke that Marino's time in Miami just ended quietly and there was no fanfare whatsoever was an actual thing? No, they had a press conference and everything. His number was also soon retired in a big halftime ceremony in Week 3 of the 2000 season. Marino did have an offer to QB the Vikings in ...

Re: "This Was the XFL" on ESPN's 30 on 30 tonight
The XFL wasn't all that bad. By the end of the season the TV broadcasts weren't as annoying and the play on the field was better. I would've tuned in for a second season. Like Reaser, I watched every game that was on TV. The league's biggest mistakes was the hiring of bad announcers. It's something ...

Re: Super Bowl LI - New England vs. Atlanta
The 1971 preseason game (9/5) between the Falcons and Patriots was almost played in a locked and empty stadium. The plumbing at the new Schaefer Stadium in Foxboro wasn't up to code and it was feared that the fans would be barred from entering. It would've been like that zero attendance game the Bal...

Re: Safest Records
You'll never see two teams gain less than 30 combined yards in a game. Somehow the Cardinals and Lions managed that in a scoreless tie on Sept. 15, 1940. The game - that was played in Buffalo - was marred by a horrific thunderstorm. Another strange (unofficial) record is that of Cub Buck's 19 punts ...

My favorite one-hit wonder player (Brick Muller) played for my favorite one-hit wonder team (1926 Los Angeles Buccaneers).
