Re: High-Scoring Quarters

I found a few examples of NFL teams scoring six times in one quarter: Packers in 1945, Rams in 1950 and Rams again in 1980. Has any team scored seven or more times in one quarter? (Any mix of touchdowns, field goals and safeties). The 1967 Pack came close with five touchdowns in the first quarter d...

1979 Eagles Streak

In 1979, the Philadelphia Eagles had a six-game stretch during which they allowed their opponents fewer points in each game than the game before: 10/28: lost 13-37 11/4: lost 19-24 11/12: won 31-21 11/18: won 16-13 11/25: won 21-10 12/2: won 44-7 Has any other team matched or bettered this six-game ...

Re: Fewest total offense yards in a victory

On November 6, 1966, the Eagles beat the cowboys 24-23 while gaining only 80 yards on offense (rush + pass). Philadelphia ran back three kick returns for touchdowns.

Re: Why is passer rating still being used as a stat?

The passer rating formula might be arbitrary, flawed and in need of updating, but if it is applied to all quarterbacks in a given season, it does a good job of separating the great, good and average performers.

Re: 'Common opponents' gets nod over 'better conference reco

One could argue that head-to-head should be lower in the list of divisional tiebreakers, as it represents only a two-game sample. Two teams in the same division share 12 common opponents, and this set of games carries more statistical weight.

Almost Perfect Passer Rating

In a 1993 game, Troy Aikman went 11-for 13 with 162 yards, 2 touchdowns and no interceptions for an almost "perfect" passer rating of 158.2. His actual rating was 158.17, but passer ratings are typically rounded to one decimal place. A "perfect" passer rating is 158.3 (158.33), w...
