Help with an old pic
According to Getty Images, that's Dallas DB J.D. Smith in the face of Browns' QB Frank Ryan. It's hard to make out the number for the Cowboy, but I'm about 95% sure that isn't J.D. Smith, because Smith was black and the face of the DB doesn't appear to be a black player: http://www.gettyimages.com/d...

The Big Book of Black Quarterbacks
The title is a bit misleading, as this isn't a book at all, but a very lengthy two-part article in which the Deadspin staff try to compile a list of every black QB who ever played in the NFL: http://deadspin.com/the-big-book-of-black-quarterbacks-1517763742 Has anyone here read it? Did they miss any...

"The Pros" by Robert Riger reissued
The Amazon info says the paperback was released on April 16, 2016, but the cover image is that of the original 1960 edition:
http://www.amazon.com/The-Pros-Robert-R ... 1501147617
Is this a reprint, a reissue, or a revision of the 1960 original? And why release it now?

Re: Zone defense in the 1950s?
All of which shows that the assertion that the zone defense was invented to stop Bob Hayes is baloney. But we here all knew that. Still, a Google search calls up several examples perpetuating this fallacy. And that's exactly why I asked the question. I know it's a myth, but Cowboy fans continue to ...

Zone defense in the 1950s?
I found an article in the SI archive about the 1959 Colts-Giants NFL Championship Game: http://www.si.com/vault/1960/01/04/582350/the-best-team-you-ever-saw The Colts' zone defense is mentioned several times. Did other teams employ the zone defense in the 1950s? If so, can anyone point me to online ...

Re: Clint Longley trade to San Diego Chargers
I was reading an article by Dave Brady of the Washington Post on the 1977 Dorsett trade. He notes a first round pick (No. 14) had gone from San Diego to Dallas in the Clint Longley trade (1976). Huh? Can this be right? Tom Prothro was a bright guy with an interesting background as his sometime brid...

Re: Top 100 Pro Football Books of All-Time
It helped that Kramer was the focal point of getting Bart Starr in the end zone--legally or illegally, depending on who is commenting. Had they failed to score and ended up losing, I suppose the book still would have been published, but it would have been long forgotten. Was there ever anyone else ...
