Re: NFL "what-if" scenarios thread

I think Bill Parcells said if the Giants had selected Reggie White in the 1985 allocation of the rights to USFL players, their defense would have been declared illegal. I think they selected Hall of Fame tackle Gary Zimmerman, but he did not like New York City. They probably get one more Super Bowl...

Re: NFL "what-if" scenarios thread

Gabriel could have joined, with Tom Flores traded a year earlier and Lamonica still backing up Kemp in Buffalo. Could Gabriel had led them to a western division championship over the Chiefs? Could other former NFL QBs had helped other AFL teams? As for the Rams in the NFL, they would have lost thei...

Re: Worst RBs/WRs with a 1000 yard season?

In terms of 1000 yard seasons Winder was definitely a one hit wonder...however his 8 other seasons he was still a contributor in terms of running/catching the ball out of the backfield. Not a great player but not one that holds an offense back either He actually had two Pro Bowl appearances - 1984 ...

Re: Worst RBs/WRs with a 1000 yard season?

Gaston Green comes to mind for Denver. 4 very nondescript years in the NFL where he wasn't much of a blip on the radar despite being a 1st rounder. I was never impressed with him 1991 however, 1,037 yards in 13 games. Pretty darn good. By 1993 he was out of the league Green wasn't the only one-hit ...

Re: Top, and Worst, Ten teams of the 14-game era, '61-thru-'77?

For the top 10 best, I would have the 76 and 75 Steelers at 1 and 2 followed by the 66 Packers and 73 Dolphins. I would also include the 1976 Patriots on my list. A great team that got robbed in Oakland (as well as the 77 Cowboys).

Re: 2022/1989 Pittsburgh Steelers

I am a Steelers and Yankees fan.
So was my mom. I heard a story about how she abused the TV after Maz's HR in 1960.

She was a big Steeler fan when I was growing up, but she wasn't as much into baseball (although I remember watching some of the Pirates' and Pens early-90's playoffs with her).

Re: NFL MVP's who didn't deserve to win

This is a bit of a controversial choice, but..... 1992 Steve Young 1994 no question he earned it, but 1992..... I'd have given it to Barry Foster. Foster did more with less carrying Cowher's first PIT team given how much of an offensive burden he carried. Steve Young had a great supporting cast, fa...

Re: Double-thread: '85 Lions and '86 Falcons

The 85 Lions did what they did with shaky QB play, no Billy Sims, and minimal contributions from Doug English (who only played in ten games in his last season) and Mike Cofer (who only played in seven games). The next year, they draft QB Chuck Long (who was a bust. They should have drafted WR Mike S...

Re: Toughest/Easiest schedules in football history

1989 Dallas Cowboys Yes, they were 1-15 but........ they had a very ROUGH schedule. PHI/NYG/WSH 2x, Saints/Rams/49ers, GB 2x, MIA/KC (and that's without having to play the Broncos or Raiders). 13 of their 16 games were against teams .500 or better Other than the 3-13 Falcons/5-11 Cardinals 2x (heck...

Re: NFL "what-if" scenarios thread

what if the Colts in 1983 draft Eric Dickerson and we don't have the wild Elway sweepstakes? Wouldn't have been a bad idea, but they would have had to trade RB Curtis Dickey for a QB or something. Another "what if" has to do with Accorsi not wasting time with Elway, trading down, and taki...
